Product Description

Alumina and Zirconia Ceramic Nozzles are tubular or orifice-shaped components made from high-purity alumina (Al₂O₃, typically 95% or 99%) and yttrium-stabilized zirconia (YTZP) ceramic materials. They are used to guide, accelerate, and atomize fluids (liquids, gases, or solid particles). They are manufactured through isostatic pressing and high-temperature sintering, and then precision-machined using diamond tools.

Alumina and zirconia ceramic nozzles are two common advanced ceramics used in industrial nozzles. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages, and is suitable for different applications. The choice depends entirely on the specific application requirements.

Advantages and Applications

1. Alumina Ceramic Nozzles
Advantages:
  • High hardness and high wear resistance: They are particularly well-suited to resisting abrasive wear. For example, in processes such as sandblasting, shot peening, and spraying, alumina performs exceptionally well against the wear and tear caused by high-speed particles on the nozzle's inner wall.
  • High-temperature resistance: They can operate at higher temperatures and are suitable for certain high-temperature spray applications.
  • Cost-Effective: It is the most cost-effective choice for applications requiring high wear resistance but low impact.

Typical Applications:
  • Sandblast/Shot Peening Nozzles: This is its most classic application. Used for metal surface cleaning, rust removal, and strengthening. Its high hardness provides excellent resistance to abrasion from sand particles (such as brown corundum and glass beads).
  • Abrasive Cutting Machine Nozzles: Used to direct coolant and resist abrasion from grinding dust.
  • Powder Spraying Nozzles: Used to deliver a stream of powder-containing air in electrostatic spraying equipment.
  • High-Temperature Gas Spray: Used in certain applications requiring high-temperature resistance.

2. Zirconia Ceramic Nozzles
Advantages:
  • High toughness and impact resistance are its greatest strengths. It is extremely resistant to drops and bumps, and can withstand certain operating errors and accidental impacts without breaking.
  • Excellent Overall Wear Resistance: Although slightly lower in hardness than aluminum oxide, its exceptional toughness provides a longer lifespan under erosive wear and impact conditions. Low friction and surface finish: Generally allows for smoother machining and reduced resistance to the media.

Typical Applications:
  • High-speed waterjet cutting nozzles: This is its most important and widespread application. Used for cutting metal, stone, composite materials, and more. The impact of ultra-high-pressure water jets (up to 6000 bar) is immense, and zirconia's high toughness and wear resistance make it the only choice (other than diamond nozzles) for extremely long life.
  • Precision spray nozzles: Used for atomizing fuel, cosmetics, pesticides, and more. Its smooth inner bore ensures uniform atomization.
  • High-wear-resistant nozzles: Zirconia is a more reliable choice for applications subject to both wear and mechanical impact.
