Product Description

Alumina ceramic seal rings are either rotating or stationary rings in mechanical seals that fit against and rotate relative to a mating ring. They are manufactured from high-purity alumina (Al₂O₃, typically 95% to 99%) ceramic material through isostatic pressing and high-temperature sintering.

The core function of these rings is to leverage the extreme properties of alumina ceramic to address wear, corrosion, and high-temperature issues at the sealing interface, ensuring long-term seal stability and reliability.

Performance and Advantages

1. Extremely hard and exceptional wear resistance.

  • With a Vickers hardness of >1600 HV, it is one of the hardest materials in the world.
  • Advantage: It is extremely resistant to erosion and wear from solid particles in the medium (known as abrasive wear), resulting in an extremely long service life. This is its greatest advantage over other materials.

2. Excellent Chemical Resistance.

  • It is extremely resistant to strong acids, strong bases, saline solutions, and organic solvents, and will never rust.
  • Advantage: It can be used in pumping corrosive media (such as hydrochloric acid, caustic soda, and solvents), where stainless steel and alloy seal rings would quickly corrode and fail.

3. Excellent High-Temperature Resistance.

  • It can withstand long-term operating temperatures exceeding 1500°C and exhibits excellent thermal stability.
  • Advantages: Suitable for high-temperature heat transfer pumps and hot water pumps, and will not soften or deform due to high temperatures.

4. Low Friction Coefficient
  • The surface can be polished to a very smooth surface (Ra < 0.1μm), resulting in a low friction coefficient.
  • Advantages: When paired with carbon graphite, it forms a good lubricating film, ensuring smooth operation and low power consumption.

5. High Rigidity and Low Deformation
  • The high elastic modulus makes it less susceptible to deformation under fluid pressure, maintaining the flatness and fit of the sealing face.

Application Areas

Alumina ceramic seal rings are experts in solving the sealing challenges of wear and corrosion, and are primarily used in:

Chemical and process industry pumps:
  • Applications: Pumps that transport slurries containing solid particles (slurry pumps) and pumps that transport highly corrosive media (acids, alkalis, solvents).
  • Reason: They simultaneously address the combined challenges of corrosion and wear, with a lifespan far exceeding that of metal seal rings.

Pharmaceutical and food industries:
  • Applications: Pumps that require frequent CIP (cleaning-in-place) and SIP (sterilization-in-place) cycles.
  • Reason: They are corrosion-resistant and resistant to high-temperature steam sterilization, and the high-purity ceramic will not contaminate the product.

Water treatment and environmental protection industries:
  • Applications: Sludge pumps and circulating water pumps in sewage treatment plants.
  • Reason: The media is highly abrasive and may contain corrosive components.

General Industrial Pumps:
  • Applications: Hot water circulation pumps, high-pressure cleaning pumps, and light particulate transfer pumps.
  • Reason: High-temperature and wear resistance.
