Product Description

Alumina ceramic rings are annular structural components made from high-purity aluminum oxide (Al₂O₃) powder through compaction (e.g., dry pressing or isostatic pressing) and sintering at temperatures exceeding 1600°C.

Alumina ceramic rings' performance is entirely determined by the material properties of the alumina ceramic. Their specific applications are determined by their dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and alumina content (commonly seen as 95% or 99% alumina).

Performance Characteristics & Advantages

1. Excellent Wear Resistance.
  • They possess extremely high hardness (Vickers hardness of 1500-1650 HV), making them resistant to abrasion and erosion from solid particles and fibers.
  • Advantages: They offer an extremely long service life, significantly reducing downtime and replacement frequency, lowering maintenance costs and spare parts inventory, and are particularly suitable for applications involving abrasives.

2. Excellent Electrical Insulation.
  • They are high-resistivity insulators that maintain stable insulation properties even under high frequency and high voltage conditions.
  • Advantages: Safe and reliable, used in high-voltage electrical equipment, electronic components, and semiconductor manufacturing equipment, it effectively prevents breakdown and short circuits, ensuring the safety of equipment and personnel.

3. Excellent high-temperature resistance.
  • It can withstand long-term operating temperatures up to 1600°C, with a melting point exceeding 2000°C, and exhibits excellent thermal stability.
  • Advantages: It can operate stably in high-temperature environments without deformation, making it an ideal choice for applications such as kilns, heating equipment, and high-temperature sensors, solving the problems of softening metal parts and melting plastic parts.

4. Extremely corrosion-resistant.
  • It is chemically stable and resistant to corrosion by strong acids, bases, organic solvents, and molten metal, completely rust-proof.
  • Advantages: Suitable for harsh chemical environments (such as chemical, electroplating, and pharmaceutical applications), with a lifespan far exceeding that of stainless steel, ensuring production continuity and product purity.

5. High mechanical strength and rigidity.
  • It has high compressive strength (>2000 MPa) and rigidity.
  • Advantages: It can withstand high pressures and loads, maintaining its shape and precision in applications such as mechanical seals and bearings, ensuring smooth equipment operation.

6. Low Friction Coefficient and Smooth Surface.
  • Can be polished to a very smooth surface (up to mirror-like finish) with a low friction coefficient.
  • Advantages: Smooth operation, reduced frictional resistance and energy consumption; protects contact materials (such as yarns and wires) from scratches in applications such as guidewires and guide rails.

7. Excellent Biocompatibility and Non-Magnetic Properties.
  • Non-toxic and harmless, with excellent compatibility with human tissue; completely non-magnetic.
  • Advantages: Suitable for medical devices, artificial joints, etc. Also suitable for use in magnetically sensitive environments such as MRI equipment and high-precision measuring instruments to avoid interference.

Main Application Areas

Alumina ceramic rings are used in nearly every industrial sector and are categorized below based on their primary functions:

1. As Insulating and Thermal Insulating Components
  • Electronic and Electrical Appliances: Used as insulators, coil bobbins, insulating rings for vacuum switch tubes, and insulating washers on circuit boards to ensure circuit safety.
  • Semiconductor Equipment: Used as insulating and retaining rings in equipment such as etching and CVD, capable of withstanding plasma environments.
  • Heating Elements: Used as insulating and thermal insulation rings in electric furnaces and heating rods, they isolate the heating element from the outer casing and withstand high temperatures.

2. As Wear-Resistant and Corrosion-Resistant Components
  • Pump and Valve Mechanical Seals: Paired with materials such as graphite, they serve as mechanical seals for pumps and valves handling corrosive media.
  • Bearings and Guides: Used as bearing sleeves and guide rings in corrosive or high-temperature environments, such as in conveying equipment in chemical plants.
  • Nozzles: Used as sandblasting or spray nozzles, they are more wear-resistant than metal nozzles.

3. As high-temperature furnace accessories
  • Sintering rings and furnace guards: Used to hold products and withstand high temperatures in powder metallurgy, lithium battery material sintering, and electronic ceramic firing. This is a very important application.

4. As precision positioning and spacing components
  • Lasers: Used as discharge tubes and electrode positioning rings in CO₂ laser tubes due to their insulation and thermal stability.
  • Measuring equipment: Used as high-precision measurement reference rings and positioning rings, with their low thermal expansion coefficient and dimensional stability.
  • Automation equipment: Used as non-magnetic, wear-resistant guide rings and spacer sleeves.

5. Other special applications
  • Wearable accessories: Utilizing its smooth texture, hypoallergenic properties (biocompatibility), and machinability, it is used in watch bezels, bracelets, and other applications.
  • Military and security: Used as components in bulletproof armor.
