Alumina ceramic inserts are wear-resistant, high-temperature-resistant prefabricated blocks or inserts made of alumina (Al₂O₃) ceramic material, embedded or inlaid into a metal or other material matrix.

The widespread use of alumina ceramic inserts stems from the exceptional properties of alumina ceramic: Extreme hardness and wear resistance, excellent corrosion resistance, high mechanical strength, high-temperature resistance, moderate density, and good insulation.

Common shapes include square, rectangular, trapezoidal, sector-shaped, and special-shaped. Common materials are 95% alumina and 99% alumina. Higher purity generally improves wear and corrosion resistance, but also increases cost. 95% alumina is the most commonly used grade for wear resistance.
