Product Description

Zirconia ceramic rotors are rotating components made primarily of zirconium oxide (ZrO₂). Their exceptional performance makes them suitable for applications requiring high speed, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and stability.

Zirconia is an advanced structural ceramic. Its exceptional strength and toughness, high hardness, excellent wear resistance, excellent corrosion resistance, low density, and electrical insulation make it an ideal material for rotor manufacturing.

Our Services and Capabilities

Manufacturing high-performance zirconia ceramic rotors is a complex and precise process, primarily involving the following:

  • Zirconia ceramic rotors are typically made from high-purity yttrium-stabilized zirconia (YSZ). Hunan Guoci primarily utilizes dry pressing (suitable for rotors with simple shapes), isostatic pressing (CIP) (the key to manufacturing high-performance rotors), and injection molding (suitable for rotors with extremely complex shapes, which can achieve near-net shape and reduce subsequent processing).
  • After high-temperature sintering, grinding, lapping, and polishing are performed to achieve final dimensional accuracy (micrometer-level) and surface finish.
  • Finally, 100% non-destructive testing (such as ultrasonic testing or X-ray testing) is performed to ensure the absence of internal defects such as cracks and pores.

Application Areas

Zirconia ceramic rotors are primarily used in the following high-end applications:
1. High-performance centrifugal pumps:
  • Chemical and process industries: Used to pump highly corrosive fluids such as strong acids, strong bases, saline solutions, and organic solvents. Traditional metal rotors corrode quickly, while ceramic rotors offer extremely long life.
  • Semiconductor industry: Used to pump ultrapure chemicals and polishing fluids in ultrapure water (UPW) and chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) processes to avoid metal ion contamination.
  • Pharmaceutical and food industries: Due to their non-toxic, non-polluting properties, and easy cleaning and sterilization, they meet hygiene standards.

2. Magnetic pumps and magnetic couplings:
  • Magnetic pumps achieve a completely leak-proof seal. Their core components—the containment can and the internal impeller (rotor)—are often made of zirconia. Because it is non-magnetic, magnetic fields can penetrate it intact to drive the impeller, while also withstanding the pressure and corrosion within the pump.

3 High-speed rotating machinery:
  • Small gas turbine and turbocharger rotors: In the aerospace and energy sectors, extremely high speeds (tens to hundreds of thousands of RPM) and high-temperature stability are required. Zirconia's low density and high-temperature performance (requiring the use of partially stabilized zirconia) make it a suitable material.

4 Laboratory and instrumentation:
  • High-speed centrifuge rotors: Used in scientific research, medical applications (such as blood separation), and other fields, they require high speeds, low vibration, and long life. Zirconia rotors are more durable than aluminum or titanium alloy rotors and are particularly suitable for handling corrosive samples.
  • Chromatography pump rotors: In high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) systems, piston rods and seals require extremely high wear and corrosion resistance, making zirconium oxide one of the preferred materials.
